What will the next few years mean for e-commerce? If the last few years are anything to go by, it is going to be interesting, to say the least. We have seen countless innovations like drone deliveries and cryptocurrencies that look set to turn the e-commerce world on its head. Subscriptionly has put together an infographic that will tell you all about the latest trends you need to pay attention to in order to maximize your online sales. It even touches on the topic of drones, claiming that as much as 79% of people said they would agree to a drone delivery if that would mean that their product could be delivered on the same day they ordered it.
It can be both interesting and a little scary, especially for the smaller vendor. How do you keep ahead of changes when they come so thick and fast? Or when things are so different to what came before? To be successfully going forward, you are going to have to adopt a more customer-centric and responsive mode.

You need to keep an eye on current trends and see whether you can anticipate your client’s needs. That’s the same as it has always been, but the focus now needs to be more on what the client wants than just the bottom line.
It also means thinking outside the box. On the topic of boxes, let’s use subscription boxes as an example. It is an idea that does not make sense in terms of traditional e-commerce wisdom.
Mindset of E-commerce Customers
Conventional wisdom states that clients want to know exactly what they are getting. Subscription boxes, on the other hand, contain a variety of products. The person may know that they are getting art supplies, for example, but don’t know whether it will be paints or pencils.
People also don’t get to choose when they want to order. They pay the subscription and the boxes are delivered at a set time. Nothing about this idea makes sense from a conventional standpoint.
Despite this, it is an idea that is highly successful. People love the surprise element and they love a bargain. Those making up the boxes incorporate some high value products and some lower value ones, but overall there is a perception by the client that she’s getting a great deal.
Innovators at the time tapped into the feeling that people were becoming blasé about online shopping. This was a new way to excite and delight them. By listening to what the market needs were, the innovators came up with a great solution.
Going forward, if online vendors are to succeed, they need to adopt the same kind of attitude. And, while changes may be quite significant, they rarely happen overnight. If you learn the direction the market is heading in, you can start leading trends.
