In previous session we discussed about search engine and its working. Spiders crawl the website, pick the information and index it. Whenever we put any query they displayed the result in SERP. When search engine bots crawl, they need title, description and url to display on search engine result page (SERP). For better indexing there are some parameters to make search engine friendly website. It is an important factor of SEO to make website friendly for spiders and users. SEO is not always about getting visitors but about getting right kind of visitors.

Title tells the user and spider about the page. Title should be clear about what the page contains. It shows on search engine result page. The standard length of meta title is up to 70 characters. Make sure that keywords should no repeated in title. If we put the description more then 70 characters, then dots(…) will appear after title.

<title>This is an example of title. It is a clickable blue link displayed on SERP</title>

It is a web address. It leads us to uniform resource locator. It is a web resource that specifies its location on computer network. In short its is a address of a web-page. It is used to specify address on web page. Every web page has its unique address. You can add a keyword in url to make it search engine friendly.

The meta description is a tag in HTML ~160 character snippet, that summarizes a page’s content. Meta description is showed in SERP when it contains the search phrase. Most of the people thinks that it helps us to rank better. But let me clear that it helps to raise CTR. When user read the good description as per query, clicks on the url. Some times  you find dots(…) after description, it indicates that description is continue. It occurs when we put the description more than 160 characters.

<meta name=”description” content=”The is example of description, shown on SERP”>

Keywords are the terms that people search for while trying to find your site. It describes the content of the page.  Good keyword phrases are descriptive and specific. Keyword is used in web page content. Never target so many keywords on a single page or vice-versa. Always target one keyword for one page. You can use it in title, description, url, content and more.

Images are put up on web pages to describe the content more efficiently. Images are also displayed on SERP. There are two attaributes in image

  • Title Tag
  • Alt Text

Title Tag

Title tag is for spider and user as well. Whenever you hover on an image then you will show the title attribute. Write the most accurate name of the image as title tag. Basically it is to summarize your image.

<img title=”A proper title attribute” />

Alt Text

Search engine can not read images. So we use alt text to describe the image, or what the image is all about to make it search engine friendly. All images should have alt text. It is a good practice to include your targeted keyword. This means that alt text is valuable for SEO, in addition to being useful for users. It will help image to rank better in SERP.

<img alt=”alternate text for image” />

Anchor Text

Anchor text is a visible clickable text in hyperlink used to link one web page to another. It should be relevant to page, you are linking to. The anchor text is also known as the link label or link title.  Never repeat hyperlink on same web page.

The information that is available on web page and can be accessed via internet or web is known as content. SEO content is any content created with the goal of attracting search engine audience traffic. It can be in form of text, image, audio, video or any other format.
